Follow these steps to create your portfolio for application to Emily Carr University. Instructions for transfer students vary from those applying directly into first-year studies. Whether you are applying for first-year Foundation or as a transfer student, all applicants must submit a portfolio online through SlideRoom. Your portfolio is a collection of work and ideas that demonstrate the state of your creative development. We want to see what you create to imagine how you might succeed at Emily Carr.
A strong portfolio includes a diverse array of artwork, experimental processes, material techniques, observation skills, and creative thinking. There is no rigid or fail-safe formula for a good portfolio: we are looking for that unique combination of creativity, engagement, and inspiration that makes art, design and media education suitable for you. Show us a wide range of examples of your creative practice. All media, mixed or otherwise—from a video or a song to a comic strip or a zine—are welcome.
Submit only your best work in its final state from the last two years. Be critical in your selection, as we evaluate 10 samples maximum. Respond to three prompts using a variety of materials, from images to songs to sculpture. In one original image or second media clip, answer the question: How is creativity important for both the individual and the community? Using three different materials, build a model of what you would put in the centre of public space.
After responding to the three prompts artistically, please tell us how you feel about that entire creative process by writing no more than 50 words. Lastly, we want to hear your voice and learn about you through your writing. This is not a formal essay, but an opportunity for personal reflection and intellectual honesty.

As a transfer applicant, you are encouraged to include examples of work related to the specific Undergraduate Degree program you are applying for. You should submit 10 to 15 examples of your most recent work that best represents your diversity of interests and skills.
Make selections that best represent your diversity of interests and skills. All forms of work are acceptable. In addition to the single images of your work, you may also submit video and sound files.
Please keep video or sound files to a maximum of 3 minutes long. You may also paste in a URL and embed media. Consider how your answers may enhance or contribute to our understanding of your portfolio work as we view it. You may upload images jpg, png, gif or video mov, wmv, flv, mp4 , music mp3 and one PDF document. Please ensure video clip files are from 2 to 3 minutes in length. Please note that there are several programs listed at our SlideRoom portal; it is very important that you upload your images into the correct program that you are applying for.
You can browse our undergraduate programs online. SlideRoom allows you to log in, upload, and edit your portfolio as much as you like prior to pressing the 'Submit' button. However, once you click the submit button, you will no longer be able to make changes. Please Note: you must click the submit button if you want us to review your portfolio.

The minimum academic requirement for admission to Emily Carr University undergraduate programs is graduation from grade 12 secondary school, with five grade 12 subjects.

Note to BC high school applicants, parents and counsellors : Given the unique circumstances of COVID, we will do everything we can to ensure applicants are evaluated fairly and flexibly. In regard to the new Quarter System, please ensure applicants send their grade 11 transcripts which we will use to evaluate academic eligibility.
Current grade 12 students must provide the Admissions Office with an interim transcript indicating all grade 11 courses completed and grade 12 courses completed or in progress. The Academic Basis of Admission will be determined using the courses reported on this transcript.
All interim transcripts must be submitted to the University by January All high school courses must be completed by the end of June, students planning to take summer school courses are not eligible to apply until the following year. Final transcripts indicating successful completion of the high school diploma and successful completion of required courses must be sent to the University by August 1.
Grade 12 graduation with a minimum grade point average of 2. Please note, the senior-level English must meet university entrance requirements of your province. Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum grade point average of 2. If you are applying after two years of CEGEP, you must have completed a two-year academic diploma program with a minimum of two English Literature courses.
Quebec students who only complete courses in preparatory English or English as a Second Language will be required to write an English Language Proficiency exam for admission.
Emily Carr University is dedicated to providing access and support for all applicants and particularly underrepresented populations. The University will consider indigenous applicants who are 19 years of age or older and who do not meet the current academic standing required for admission to Foundation or on transfer. Applicants who qualify under this category will be considered on the basis of their educational background, cultural knowledge, work experience, academic goals, personal achievements, and current artistic portfolio.
Applications will be reviewed by the Aboriginal Admissions Committee. The Committee has the authority to select students for admission and also determine if special conditions are necessary. Such conditions can include but are not limited to: course load requirement, tutor support, English upgrading, peer mentoring. On the other hand, few consider the only manuscripts sent for peer review or few even not bother about the accurate maintenance of total submissions. Hence, it can provide a rough estimation only.

When you repeat a course for which you received an F grade, the F from your first attempt at the course will stay on your transcript even if you re-take the course and receive a passing grade.
Both the F and the new letter grade will be used in the calculation of your cumulative Grade Point Average.
