Don't you feel better knowing that a year-old doused with Axe is aspiring to be more mature? But maybe you envy parents whose kids use too much deodorant, because yours won't use any.
You'll be relieved to know this is not just oppositional behavior. Experts cite biological factors too. Remind him to shower "Some adolescents, often more commonly boys, can have excessive secretions in the form of sweat," said Dr.
Charles J. Wibbelsman, a San Francisco pediatrician and member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' committee on adolescence. Reminding a teenager that "he is no longer a child and should use deodorant daily, as well as bathe daily, to be better accepted by his peers, usually makes the case," Wibbelsman said.
Wysocki, a behavioral neuroscientist with the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, said puberty also changes the perception of body odors: "The female nose gets more sensitive, but the male nose gets worse.
In addition, we may not notice our own odors, because "constant exposure results in a decrease in sensitivity," Wysocki said. A study of fragrances used to mask body odor also showed gender differences. Men said that most of the fragrances tested effectively masked female body odor, and "a significant number" masked male body odor, Wysocki said. Will they be properly enforced? What will it take to protect children like my son and other students who unknowingly get sick from the air in their schools?
Brandon can no longer go to school because of chemicals he gets exposed to — doctors say they could kill him. The school attempted to convince the student population to refrain from wearing Axe, but they are just kids and that did not work. My son just wanted to be a regular kid. School was supposed to help him achieve that very reasonable goal, but instead, he has been robbed of his health.
When Brandon was 10 years old, I packed his lunch, put him on the school bus, and a child was spraying Axe Body Spray in his class. We must think about the air our children are breathing at school. We must encourage schools to be fragrance-free. My son is one of the strongest people I know. I often wonder how and when this journey will end.
I do know one thing though. I am in it, with him, to win it. I think that we definitely need to put a check on how much chemicals our children are exposed to in school and that includes chemicals used in cleaning and maintenance. Strong chemicals used on floors and to clean often unventilated bathrooms need to be evaluated for their safety. My son experienced the same problems! Axe body spray is not allowed in our household!
I cringe when I see it in stires. It ruined my sons coaching career where I taught school due to most junior high school football players spraying it in the locker room. We spent the night in the ER room after my son inhaled this product after the game when players sprayed it after showering!!! I really want to know what the problem ingredient ended up being because Axe gives me an instant headache and causes me to choke.
I have to hold my breath until away from the wearer to breathe again. Do you know if there is a class action lawsuit against AXE body spray? My daughter experienced an asthma attack, because some stool the school bus were spraying AXE. She was debilitated for five years!!!! I also just had a nervous system reaction to Axe Body spray. My only guess is this stuff is subjecting us to significant amounts of Benzoate and Salicylate volatile compounds.
This started when I was a youth with a reaction to Cinnabar perfume. Axe is only the most recent offender.
